Travis sank deep into the reclining chair, leaned back, and closed his eyes. What a crappy day. If you could rate the day on a scale of one to ten, it would be a negative forty. He worked as a bank customer service representative, and today it seemed like every customer wanted to argue about something. A couple of customers even swore at him. To top it off, he just found out, his younger brother Freddie was going to jail…..again. Always doing something stupid. This time he was driving drunk, and the police came up on him and tried to pull him over, so he took off. He ended up hitting a lady in an alley who was taking out her garbage. Fortunately, she would recover, but Freddie was in big trouble. Freddie was injured too, in serious, but stable condition. He was in the hospital under police custody. Travis had been to the hospital to see him, and to yell at him for being stupid. He was all out of sympathy. As he was leaving the hospital, an older lady walked past him, and as she passed, she smiled up at him, and said, “You know, today is a good day.” He just gave the lady a half smile, and a nod. “She doesn’t know the day I’ve had,” he thought to himself.
As he sat in his recliner, he picked up his Bible, which was sitting on the stand next to the chair. He needed some peace. Peace that you could only find in God’s Word. John 3:16 is where the Bible opened. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Travis meditated on this scripture for awhile. A smile slowly crossed his face as a thought dawned on him. Today was a good day. Today actually was a really good day. It was because God loved us so much that he made a way for us to be reconciled to him, even while we were still sinners, through the sacrifice of his son Jesus Christ. Jesus took our punishment, and paid the price for our sin, so that through him, we would be reconciled to God, and spend eternity with him, through our repentance of our disobedience, and putting our faith and trust in him. That meant that no matter how bad, or lousy, or crummy our day was, when you think about what Christ did for us on the cross, it was still a good day. So yes. Today was a good day.
