There’s No Place Like Home

“But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21.

Even at now as a woman of 40, Judy still loved this movie. She remembered as a little girl, how she and her sister would get all of their dolls and stuffed animals, and sit them on the couch to watch with them, every time the movie came on TV. She thought it was funny that her kids now did the same thing every time they watched the movie.

Judy especially liked the part near the end of the movie when Dorothy clicked the heels of her ruby slippers together three times, and said, “There’s no place like home.”

This time though, her favorite part of the movie made her a little sad. Her grandfather had recently died. He had been diagnosed with a terminal disease. Like many men, he rarely went to the doctor, except when he started to feel pain, and by that time, it was too late.

The last conversation Judy had with him, he smiled at her, and told her not to be sad. He had lived his life honoring Christ, and he was looking forward to going to his heavenly home, to the place Christ had prepared for him. “You know, as believers in Christ, this isn’t our home,” he said to her. “Heaven is our home.”

Since his passing, Judy thought more, and more about what he had said. He had such a joy, and peace about dying, or “going home to heaven,” as he called it. That’s how it is after a lifetime of trusting in Christ. There is no place like the heavenly home that Christ has prepared for us.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may also be where I am.” John 14:1-3
