Greg sat down at his desk, and let out a big sigh. Man, he sure did hate this place. Five minutes to eight. At 8:00 the phones would be turned on, and then the calls would start coming in. He could not stand talking to customers. “Our customers are so stupid!” he thought to himself. “They don’t know anything! Never wanting to take responsibility for their own mistakes!”
Greg worked as a customer service agent at a local bank. He was in school, part-time, studying for his dream job. Well it wasn’t actually a job. He wanted to start his own business. He was in school to be a chef, and he had dreams of one day opening his own restaurant. This bank gig was just temporary, until he finished school.
Deep down, he understood that his attitude regarding his job, was all wrong. He really felt convicted about this. Just this past Sunday at church, Pastor Ross had talked about Colossians 3:23.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
Greg knew that he wasn’t working at his job as if he was working for the Lord. As difficult as the job was, and as much as he disliked it, he wanted his attitude to change toward the job, and toward the customers who called in. Just before the phones were turned on, and the calls started to roll in, he sat back in his chair, and said a short prayer, asking God to help him to change his attitude, and to remember, that even in this job, he was working for the Lord.
Thought: Think about how we can apply Colossians 3:23 to our lives each day, and in all that we do.
The Members of 42nd Avenue Baptist Church is a series of devotional stories that, although they are fictional, are based off of real life situations. I will be posting these about once a month, and it is my hope that they will be a blessing to you.
