We are living in very troubling times. There are a lot of things going on in the world today. Every time you look at the news. or look on social media, there are always a number of troubling things going on, so much so, that there are some people who don’t even watch the news anymore, and stay off social media. We live in a time where good is bad, and bad is good. With everything going on, these can be very frightening times. God though, does not want us to be frightened of what is going on, nor does he want us to be troubled. Here are a few scriptures to give peace and comfort during these troubled times. I hope you find value in them.
Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
In these verses, we’re being told not to worry about anything, but take everything to God in prayer. If we turn to God, he will give us peace beyond belief. I can think of so many times, when I worried myself sick about something, and then finally decided to pray about it, and once I gave the issue to God, he gave me peace about it. If we bring our cares and concerns to God first, it will save us a lot of stress.
2 Thessalonians 3:16
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.”
To receive the Lord’s peace requires having a personal relationship with him. That is the only way to receive the Lord’s peace.
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
The peace of the world is temporary, and depends on circumstances. The peace Jesus is talking about is an eternal peace to all believers, in spite of whatever trouble there are.
1 Peter 5:7
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
We can cast, all of our worries, concerns, sufferings, and anything else, on the Lord, and trust that he will bring us through them. We can trust that whatever we are going through in our lives, God is at work.
John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
As Christians, we will go through persecutions because of our faith, but Christ has been victorious over the world, with his death and resurrection. Since Christ is victorious over the ways of the world, we have victory through Christ.
Psalm 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountain quake with their surging.”
Refuge is a place of safety. God is our place of safety, and our strength. He is always our help in times of trouble, so we should not fear, regardless of what is happening.
Psalm 27:1
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
When you think about it, light in the darkness shows you the way to go, or guides you. Salvation means redemption or deliverance. God’s stronghold, is his protection. With God’s guidance, deliverance, and protection, who should we be afraid of?
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
In other words, even when we don’t understand whats going on, we trust in the Lord. We trust in God, and not in our own knowledge. If we acknowledge, or submit to God, he will guide us.
2 Thessalonians 3:3
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.”
Because God is faithful, he will give us the strength we need to endure, and will ultimately give us victory over persecution.
Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you peace.”
This is my favorite bible verse. Verses 29-30 go on to say, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and staff, they comfort me.”
I would encourage you to read the whole 23 Psalm, but this is the verse that really stands out to me. God will be with us even through our darkest hours, so we need not fear.
God Loves Us
Through everything that is going on in our lives, and in the world, it is good to know that God loves us, and cares about us. He gives us peace and comfort through his Word. He gives us direction through his Word. When we put our faith and trust in him, there is no need to worry, or be afraid, regardless of the circumstances.
Pic Of The Post
The pic of this post is one that I find to be very peaceful and comforting. It is just a peacefully flowing stream on a winter’s day. No one is around, and even though it is winter, and the tree branches are bare, you can still see the beauty of God’s creation. How peaceful is that?
