Never Leave Or Forsake You

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God is with you; he will never leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Katrina sat at her desk and smiled. Although the announcement hadn’t been officially made, her boss had already given her the good news. The great news.

As a single mother she had not been making much money, so she decided to go back to school and earn her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, wanting to provide a better life for her, and her son. It was hard, but she made it through and completed her degree.

She then decided to get her Master’s degree. This was doubly difficult, especially when raising her son by herself. She completed her degree though, and got a great job with a good company.

The job was rewarding, but she found that many of her co-workers tried to undermine her decisions. This caused a great deal of stress for her. She would often wonder why God was allowing these things to happen to her. The bottom fell out, when one of those co-workers, Kathy, now became her boss.

Her previous boss, even with the difficulties with her co-workers, had given her great reviews, and she deserved it. She always went above, and beyond, to make sure projects were completed in a timely manner. Kathy though, even as a co-worker, had always tried to undermine her decisions, along with her little band of followers. Katrina had no idea how she got the job as supervisor. Well, Kathy now gave her a horrible review. Katrina knew that there was no way that she deserved it. It seemed like Kathy was just trying to get at her because she disliked her. Katrina tried to fight it, but to no avail. Kathy ended up firing her. Katrina felt that it was unjust, and she tried to fight it, but no one would listen to her.

Now, out of a job, Katrina wondered how she would be able to provide for her son. She ended up taking a part-time customer service job with the county, paying only a fraction of what she had been making. It was the only thing she was able to find. Somehow, with God’s help, she was still able to make ends meet, although barely.

After a few months, she saw a posting for a programming position with the county, and she decided to apply for it. She ended up getting the position. The job was a blessing, but also very stressful. She was now making much more money, but sometimes she struggled to keep up. There were also times when it seemed like, once again, her co-workers did not trust her decisions. She felt it was unfair, but what could she do?

She, as they say, put her head the the grindstone, and worked very hard on her job. After a couple of years, things slowly started to change, and now often times, her co-worked would seek out her advice on projects they were working on.

She was given the news just the previous day. She had just been promoted to a Supervisor position. It was a result of all of her hard work, and leadership. As she sat at her desk, she remembered how she was constantly in prayer over her situation. So many times it felt like God was just silent. So many times, it didn’t feel like he was with her at all. Looking back though, she realized how far God had brought her, and that he was actually with her each and every step of the way.

Thought: Even in times when it doesn’t feel like God is with us, he is. We don’t go by feeling, but by God’s Word. He will never leave or forsake us.
