A Heavenly Home

It had been a very long day, but Jack had finally made it home. It was Friday. His wife Janet hadn’t made it home yet. She was at her every other Friday hair appointment. Jack thought to himself, that there is no better feeling than coming home from work on Friday, after a long week.

Home, that was their base. No matter where they went, whether going out with some friends, or going somewhere out of state for vacation, it was alway nice to come back home. Jack and Janet had lived in their two-story townhome for about eight years. They had it fixed up just the way they wanted it, from the color of the furniture, to the pictures on the walls. It seemed like it would take forever when they first moved in. There were boxes everywhere. Most of them were Janet’s.

Now, Jack sat down in the reclining chair, in the living room, and picked up the TV remote. As he sat there in the chair, watching, but not watching the TV, he thought about something Pastor Ross had said in his sermon a couple of weeks ago.

The sermon he preached was on John 14:2, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you so. I go to prepare a place for you.” Jesus is actively preparing a place in Heaven for his followers. Pastor Ross explained that the mansions are not literal houses, but it is a description of the spiritual dwelling place, and the abundant life believers will have with God.

Jack thought that as much as he loved his townhome, there were still times when repairs needed to be made, mortgages and rents were due every month, plus, the homes were not indestructible. A couple at church had their home destroyed by a fire. Fortunately, their insurance payout allowed them to buy another home. The home Jesus is preparing is eternal. Fire can’t destroy it, and there are no repairs that need to be done.

Pastor Ross also talked about 1 Corinthians 2:9, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have they entered into the human heart-what God has prepared for those who love him.” This is a reference to the unimaginable things God has in store in Heaven for those who love Him. Things that are beyond human comprehension.

Jack thought to himself, that as much as he loved his earthly home, the home Christ is preparing for his people is something he cannot even comprehend.
